Cencus records for the Father Quick Boys’ Home

The growth of St Josephs boys home at Longsight can be illustrated by the entries in the census records from 1861 to 1881. The first of the pages below shows Thomas Quick as a Student at School. The second, third and fourth pages show Thomas as Head of household at 41, Sidney Street with staff and 46 boys with jobs or as students and pupils. The next 18 pages from 1881 show staff, 264 boys and 175 girls. The last 2 pages show the Little Sisters of the Poor (from many different countries) and elderly men who were in their care.
